Welcome to my Website!

I’m a Cinematographer dedicated to diverse representation and unique storytelling through detail-oriented visuals.

My name is Catalina Parra, I am a Director of Photography based in the Los Angeles area; originally from Houston, Texas and even more originally from a culturally mixed Asian and Hispanic immigrant family.

As a DP, I focus on visual storytelling, through carefully crafted camera composition and authentic lighting plans, on numerous narrative short films, documentaries, music videos and commercials. I now own a Videography Business , Catalina Parra Films, INC., to work 1-1 with clients for their promotion and social media video materials

In 2019, I received my Bachelor’s Degree at the University of Chicago studying the relationship between philosophy and visual arts. At UChicago, I delved into the question "Is Art Truth?" Now in LA, I'm translating theory into filmmaking practice. Inspired by the drive to tell stories and lead, I aim to direct the gaze towards truth, blending animation with live action to explore new worlds. Then, I graduated in 2022 with my MFA at USC's School of Cinematic Arts.

At USC I was a recipient of an Annenberg Fellowship in Cinematography and interned at the Shoah Foundation Archive. My films have won awards at numerous festivals like the Santa Barbara Film Fest, San Diego Film Festival, and the Texas Gulf Film Festival to name a few. As a member of the Chicana Directors Initiative and Women of Color Unite, I’m dedicated to increasing the representation of women of color in the film industry. This year, I was accepted to the ASC Vision Mentorship Program hoping to gain valuable guidance from current ASC members.
